Abstract
Misleading advertisements have become a significant challenge in the modern marketplace, influencing consumer choices through false, exaggerated, or deceptive claims. Such practices not only distort fair competition but also undermine consumer trust and informed decision-making. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019, represents a landmark legislative reform in India by introducing stringent provisions to regulate misleading advertisements and enhance consumer rights. The Act empowers the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to investigate violations, impose penalties, and direct the discontinuation or modification of deceptive advertisements while holding manufacturers, advertisers, and endorsers accountable. This study examines the legal framework governing misleading advertisements under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and evaluates its effectiveness in safeguarding consumer interests. It also highlights judicial developments, enforcement challenges, and the role of regulatory authorities in ensuring ethical advertising practices. The study concludes that effective implementation, greater consumer awareness, and stricter regulatory compliance are essential for strengthening consumer protection in the evolving digital and commercial landscape.
